NGS Super has appointed Nick Callil, a veteran of the superannuation industry and consulting firm WTW, as its new head of strategy. Callil spent 27 years at WTW, including 15 years as head of retirement solutions in Australia. His appointment comes as the $15 billion fund looks to sharpen its focus on retirement planning and member outcomes.

Callil also spent 14 years as a member of the Association of Superannuation Funds Australia (ASFA) until November 2024. During that time, he sat on ASFA’s Super System Design Council and chaired its annual conference committee.

A 27-year run in retirement and strategy

In his new role at NGS Super, Callil will help the fund develop and execute its future strategy. He will also be involved in business planning and major growth initiatives. “A recognised thought leader and regular speaker on retirement, Nick has authored a wide range of papers and articles focused on improving outcomes in the retirement phase of Australia’s super system,” the fund said. “This appointment strengthens our strategic capability as we continue expanding our retirement offering to support members when it matters most,” the fund added. “We’re excited to move forward with his perspective and expertise to deliver better outcomes for members.”

Writing on LinkedIn, Callil said he was “super excited to join NGS Super, serving our 112,000+ members and working with the outstanding NGS team led by Natalie Previtera.” He added that he looked forward to “helping drive forward the fund’s strategic thinking and expand its retirement program, so that members can live a confident & dignified life in retirement.”

Second executive move in two months

Callil’s appointment is the second senior hire at NGS Super in two months. The fund previously promoted Adam Parsons to chief member officer. Parsons is responsible for member growth, engagement, and advice services.

Parsons joined NGS Super in 2024 after leading the fund’s brand, marketing, and digital experience functions. He helped reposition those areas as drivers of member acquisition, retention, and engagement. Before joining NGS Super, he held senior marketing leadership positions at Colonial First State and CommSec.
